Wolfson has overload of contenders

MIAMI - Trainer Marty Wolfson entered four horses for Saturday's $55,000 Our Dear Peggy Stakes, and all of them would be contenders in the overnight stakes for fillies and mares carded at 1 1/16 miles on Calder's turf course.

Wolfson, however, will not fire all his bullets in the same spot. Instead, he plans to start Toocleverforwords if the Our Dear Peggy stays on the grass and the red-hot Dash Dot Dash if the race switches to the main track. Wolfson said he will save Speak Easy Gal and perhaps also Omega Cat for the Grade 3 Taylor Made Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth Park on

Aug. 1.

Toocleverforwords was purchased privately by Farnsworth Stables and turned over to Wolfson shortly after winning her entry-level allowance condition by 2 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park on May 28. The Our Dear Peggy will be her stakes debut.

"I really like this filly," Wolfson said. "Her last race was very good, that's why we bought her, and although it's a big step from first-level allowance races to a stakes there really are no killers in this field."

Dash Dot Dash, claimed for $32,000 out of a win this spring at Santa Anita, dominated both the Take D' Tour and Emergency Nurse stakes by a combined margin of 13 lengths in her two local starts. She will be wheeling back on just two weeks' rest if she starts on Saturday.

"I never run a horse back in two weeks, but she's doing so well right now," said Wolfson. "She absolutely galloped in her last race, it took nothing out of her."

Jermaine Bridgmohan will be aboard whichever filly represents Wolfson and Farnsworth in the Our Dear Peggy.

Musical Romance is one of three 3-year-olds entered in the race and perhaps the biggest threat to Toocleverforwords if she gets to run on the turf. She has sandwiched a victory in the Strikethedancer overnight stakes here on June 6 between a pair of fourth-place finishes during the meet. In her last start, the Noble Royalty Stakes, Musical Romance lost her best chance when forced to steady sharply behind horses while racing near the rail entering the first turn.

The remainder of the field comprises 3-year-olds Miss Delite and Super Girlie, along with Stacy on the Wire, Outstanding Henny, Arctic Eva, Zip Trick, Entertaining, and Glotona.
