Witt Six dominates Star of Texas Stakes

Witt Six, ridden by Sasha Risenhoover, wins the Star of Texas Stakes by six lengths on Tuesday at Sam Houston.

Witt Six rolled by six lengths in the $50,000 Star of Texas Stakes on Tuesday’s closing-day card at Sam Houston Race Park. It was the seventh stakes win for Witt Six, and his first against fellow Texas-breds. Lonesome Wind finished second, 2 3/4 lengths clear of Spider’s Alibi, who was third.

The Star of Texas was for 4-year-olds and up at a mile. It was restricted to horses bred in Texas.

Witt Six ($6.20) stalked in fourth through an opening quarter in 23.70 seconds, advanced through a half-mile in 47.51, moved to the fore after six furlongs in 1:11.93, and won on a fast track in 1:37.17.

Sasha Risenhoover was aboard Witt Six for trainer Amanda Barton.

Witt Six is a son of Drums of Thunder who races for his breeder, Henry S. Witt Jr. He has now won 9 of 36 starts and earned $213,431. ​
