Within Reason wins Sunny Slope

ARCADIA, Calif. - Within Reason won his stakes debut in Saturday's $81,675 Sunny Slope Stakes for 2-year-old sprinters at Santa Anita, holding off a stubborn pacesetter in Bengal Lore.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Within Reason ($5) stalked Bengal Lore to early stretch, drew alongside that colt with a furlong remaining and fought to the wire to win by a nose. Within Reason finished six furlongs in 1:09.19. Say Tomorrow finished third, 5 1-2 lengths behind Within Reason.

The Thought Occurs, who finished fourth, suffered an ankle injury while galloping out and was vanned off.

Within Reason, trained by Brian Koriner, has won 2 of 3 starts and $86,005.
