WinStar Farm acquires stallion rights to Take Charge Indy, who is back in training
Email
LEXINGTON, Ky. – WinStar Farm has bought the breeding rights to Florida Derby winner Take Charge Indy and will stand him after his eventual retirement, the Kentucky farm announced Tuesday.
Chuck and Maribeth Sandford’s 3-year-old son of A.P. Indy and multiple Grade 1 winner Take Charge Lady underwent surgery in May to remove a bone chip in his left front ankle but has resumed training with Pat Byrne after about 90 days off.
"He looks absolutely fantastic right now, and we’re thrilled to have him back at the barn," Byrne said in a statement issued with WinStar’s announcement. "Physically, he has filled out in all the right spots, and even [jockey] Calvin [Borel] was amazed when he saw him. We’re optimistic Take Charge Indy will have a strong end of the year."
Take Charge Indy won the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity at 2 before winning the Florida Derby. His race record stands at two wins and two seconds from seven starts, with earnings of $721,000.

When Pat Byrne speaks, I listen. A trainer who tells it as it is. Keep up the great work Mr. Byrne and I can't wait to see TCI plan at the races !

Here we go with the Union Rags banter! Unreal, the colt won one of the slowest Belmont's in history!!! What a race horse, did we mention he couldn't get past Hansen when he was clearly on the best part of the track breeders cup day? Did we mention his beyer figs never improved from 2 to 3? Did we mention his career ROI is under 2? A good 2 year old who never improved..... A nice horse who wasn't very fast...... A vastly overrated colt who I made a ton of money betting against....... Tough luck colt? how about you say one-dimensional who couldn't win unless the race broke perfectly for him....

Union Rags a fraud?? Sounds like an emotional handicapping technique

This horse got me back on the winning track handicapping...knowing Union Rags was a
fraud heading into the Florida Derby,I took a shot on Indy!..Glad to hear he's doing so well,
looking forward to seeing him again on the racetrack. ML
