WinStar auctioning memorabilia to benefit racehorse adoption

LEXINGTON, Ky.  - WinStar Farm will auction some of its racing memorabilia on eBay this month to benefit the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.

The auction, which can be accessed via WinStar Stablemates, will run from Dec. 9 and Dec. 13, and all proceeds will go directly to New Vocations.

"The folks at New Vocations have one of the most important jobs in our industry in my opinion, and they do a tremendous job," WinStar's CEO, Elliott Walden, said. "They have a great program that retrains these tremendous athletes for their careers after racing, and then they place them with people who have been qualified through an extensive evaluation program, which includes a year's worth of follow-up, to ensure that these horses continue to be cared for to the standard that they deserve. It's our responsibility to the industry to support programs such as New Vocations, and WinStar is always honored to do it."

Among the auction items are Drosselmeyer's Breeders' Cup Classic paddock blanket; a rose from 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver's winner's blanket; shoes worn by Drosselmeyer during his 2010 Belmont Stakes and 2011 Breeders' Cup Classic wins; halters from Tiznow, Super Saver, and Drosselmeyer; and 25 Drosselmeyer Breeders' Cup hats autographed by Mike Smith, Bill Mott, and Kenny Troutt.
