Winnipeg invader eyes triple

EDMONTON, Alberta - Winnipeg invader Ericka's Lass will ride the momentum of two consecutive stakes victories into Sunday's 19th running of the Chariot Chaser Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at Northlands Park.

Honoring the memory of the Lomar Stable's filly who beat the boys in the 1965 Canadian Derby, the Chariot Chaser has a field of seven and will be contested at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Erika's Lass, who won the Chantilly Stakes on her home track three weeks ago, is making her second visit to Alberta. A Florida-bred trained by Emile Corbel and owned by Empire Stables, she also won the Mount Royal at Stampede Park in her only other start this year. Her rider will be Mike Immarino, who has ridden her in all her starts.

Also challenging the home forces is another Manitoban, Miz Mitzie, who has never been worse than second in her young career.

After romping by nine lengths in her seasonal debut, California-bred Miz Mitzie was second in both an allowance and then to Erika's Lass in the Chantilly.

Alta Aire was photoed out by Erika's Lass in the Mount Royal, then finished fourth in the Lilac to Shy Lil. Last year she was undefeated, with a maiden win and a triumph in the Bird of Pay.

Kellys Guest has won three races this year, including an allowance score over Megan's Way and Certainly Legal. Trained by Pinky MacDonald, she was eased in the one-mile Lilac.

Deputy Wild Child won her maiden June 2 and was fourth to Kellys Guest in a subsequence allowance.
