Winner likely among Hollendorfer quartet

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer seems to be holding all the aces when he saddles four of the six entrants in Sunday's $40,000-added Luther Burbank Handicap at the Sonoma County Fair: A Reel Tizzy, Hippogator, Gonetorule, and Marwood.

The Hollendorfer fillies will run as three betting interests. A Reel Tizzy and Hippogator will be an entry in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares.

Marty's Zee is the speed of the race and drew the outside post. She is the lone member of the field with experience over the track, having won her lone start here in a sprint two years ago.

Marty's Zee, a stakes winner, comes off a third to Marwood in the Alameda County Fillies and Mares Handicap at Pleasanton. On Sunday, he won't get the easy lead she probably needs with the presence of Hippogator in the race.

Hippogator won the Miss America on the turf at Bay Meadows this spring.

Marty's Zee edged Hippogator when she re-rallied after being passed in the lane in an allowance race at Golden Gate Fields in February.

But the problem for Marty's Zee is not just Hippogator.

A Reel Tizzy has three wins in four starts since being claimed for $20,000 by Hollendorfer for George Todaro on Feb. 11 at Santa Anita.

"We were just looking for a horse to claim," Hollendorfer said. "She's won a pair of allowance races, and I'd rather have her in an allowance race for the third condition. But there's nowhere else to run."

A Reel Tizzy has speed and should be sitting just behind Marty's Zee and Hippogator.

Gonetorule was favored in the Pleasanton Stakes, which was won by Marwood. She ran sixth that day but has worked well since and won't be battling a strong speed bias here.

"She didn't run good that day, but [Russell] Baze wanted to ride her back," Hollendorfer said.

The blossoming Marwood earned her first stakes win at Pleasanton. She sat closer than usual, opened a big lead in the lane and coasted home. She picks up three pounds off the win and is the highweight at 120 as the four Hollendorfer entrants are the top four weights in the race.

"I like the way Ron [Warren] rides her," said Hollendorfer, who likes her ability to sit in a good stalking position.

Icy Choice, a runner-up to A Reel Tizzy after closing strongly at a mile in their last race at Solano, rounds out the field.
