Windward Islands gave Sam-Son Farm and trainer Mark Frostad their sixth victory in the last eight runnings of the Toronto Cup Stakes, a nine-furlong turf route for 3-year-olds.

Windward Islands rallied down the center of the course under Todd Kabel to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths over 32-1 shot Angel of the House. Skip Code wound up third, and favored Approval Rating finished sixth in a field that was reduced to nine runners with the scratch of Sprung.

Making his first start with blinkers, Windward Islands completed the distance in 1:49.58.

"I suggested that we try the blinkers, and it worked out well." said Kabel, who has won the Toronto Cup seven times. "He's got a lot of learning to do, and he's going to advance a lot this year."

Windward Islands ($10.90) earned $90,000 of the $151,600 purse.
