Wind Water dominates in San Mateo Stakes

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Wind Water ($3.60) was never seriously challenged as he scored the second stakes victory of his career, winning the $66,075 San Mateo Stakes at Bay Meadows on Saturday.

The 2-year-old colt broke alertly from the rail and established a quick lead down the backstretch over Tricky Secret. He expanded his margin at every call, winning the six-furlong race by five lengths over Danny Dingle. The winning time was 1:09.93.

"Everything went perfect today," winning jockey Frank Alvarado said. "With post one, you have to get out of there so I sent him a little bit to get position and then I took hold. Turning for home, I had a lot of horse and knew they would have trouble beating us. As soon as I asked him, he took off again."

The victory, worth $39,675, was the second in five starts for the Cal-bred son of Bold Badgett, who also won the Everett Nevin-Alameda County Futurity at Pleasanton this summer. Wind Water has now earned $93,985.
