Wind Racer worth the wait

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Wind Racer had to wait until she turned 4 before finally getting to the races, but she did not disappoint her connections or backers once she did, winning her career debut in impressive fashion here Wednesday.

Wind Racer, a 3-5 favorite, overcame early trouble to win by five lengths after completing six furlongs in 1:09.21 under Javier Castellano. Wind Racer, a daughter of Curlin, is trained by Marty Wolfson for Stonestreet Stables and Martin Cherry.

“She bucked her shins, which is why she didn’t get to the races until so late,” said Wolfson. “I’ve had her five months. She’s been ready to run since November. I entered her four times, and the races didn’t fill. She got in a little trouble down the backside today, but she’s got a great mind; she just relaxed off the pace. She’s the type of horse who doesn’t do anything wrong, and I’d be very comfortable stretching her out and running her at distances up to a mile.”
