Wind delays two Woodbine stakes

Email

Sunday's card at Woodbine was canceled following the third race because of high winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour.

The $250,000 Coronation Futurity and the $100,000 Labeeb, both scheduled for Sunday, will instead make up a stakes doubleheader on Thursday's program.

Woodbine's policy calls for a canceled stakes race to be run on the next available card, and entries already had been finalized for Wednesday when the cancellation was announced.

Woodbine does not redraw stakes races under such circumstances. The Labeeb, originally scheduled for one mile on turf, had been switched to a mile and 70 yards on the main track. Six horses were scratched and, although they will be on the program, will remain scratched Thursday under Ontario Racing Commission rules.

Turf racing at Woodbine had been scheduled to conclude for the season Sunday, but was called off beginning immediately late Friday afternoon because of concerns regarding the course condition.
