Wilson to winter in Hong Kong

Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson is moving her tack to Hong Kong, at least for the remainder of the winter. The 26-year-old Canadian has been granted a license by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to ride in Hong Kong from Feb. 1 through April 2. She is slated to return to Canada for the opening of the Woodbine meeting on April 5.

The winner of both the Sovereign Award and the Eclipse Award as leading apprentice in 2005 and the only woman to ride the winner of the Queen’s Plate, Wilson is currently based at the Fair Grounds. She first raced in Hong Kong on Dec. 5, when she represented Canada in the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys Championship at Happy Valley. She has also ridden in England. in the Shergar Cup Jockey Series at Ascot in 2006.

In Hong Kong, Wilson she will ride twice a week, generally at Happy Valley on Wednesdays nights and at Sha Tin on Sunday afternoons. The winner of both the Sovereign Award and the Eclipse Award as leading apprentice rider in 2005, Wilson will depart for Hong Kong on Tuesday and be eligible for rides at Sha Tin’s Saturday afternoon meeting.
