Will Rogers, Remington cancel cards

A winter blast on the first day of spring forced Will Rogers Downs near Tulsa and Remington Park in Oklahoma City to cancel their Saturday programs. Will Rogers was to have opened its Thoroughbred meet Saturday afternoon, while Remington s night card was to have featured the Grade 2, $310,000 Oklahoma Quarter Horse Futurity.

Will Rogers was hit with ice and snow on Saturday and more was forecast overnight, said Kelly Cathey, the track s racing secretary and operations manager.

We re expected to have 8 to 12 inches of snow, Cathey said Saturday.

Cathey added that for the next scheduled Will Rogers card on Monday, temperatures are supposed to be in the high 50s.

Will Rogers had to push back the start of its meet two weeks because of extreme weather conditions all winter in Oklahoma. Cathey said some of the races lost have been brought back for next Saturday.

Remington has rescheduled the futurity and its supporting stakes for next Saturday. The track canceled because of freezing temperatures and expected snow accumulation in Oklahoma City.
