Will Rogers Downs: Flat Black takes Clem McSpadden Memorial Route 66 Stakes

Flat Black found something more in the late stages of the $50,000 Clem McSpadden Memorial Route 66 Stakes at Will Rogers Downs on Monday, coming back along the inside for a three-quarter-length win over favorite My Star Runner. It was another 4 1/2 lengths back in third to Steal Your Face.

The Route 66, for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs, was the first stakes of the young meet at Will Rogers in Claremore, Okla.

Flat Black ($6.20) moved to the lead at the start of the Route 66, taking the field through an opening quarter in 22.80 seconds. My Star Runner pushed the pace in second before moving past the leader through a half-mile in 45.46. Flat Black then fought back along the rail in the stretch, to win the race on a track rated good in 1:10.65.

Rohan Singh rode the winner for trainer Tim G. Williams.

Flat Black was winning the first stakes of his career in the Route 66. He races for Tony Jones and Timothy J. Williams. Flat Black is a 4-year-old by Flatter and the two-time stakes-winning mare Trailena.
