Will E Scat one to beat in John Wayne

Email

An evenly matched field of seven Iowa-bred colts and geldings will contest the $65,000 John Wayne Stakes at six furlongs at Prairie Meadows.

Will E Scat could be the favorite after a statebred allowance victory on April 21 at six furlongs in a snappy 1:09.28. Will E Scat, in the money in 13 of 15 starts at six furlongs, is trained by Kelly Von Hemel and will be ridden by Carlos Montalvo.

Wild L was beaten just a neck in that April 21 allowance. Trained by Dick Clark, Wild L has never been worse than second in statebred company.

Pass the Amo enters the John Wayne off an impressive conditioned statebred allowance win on April 28 for trainer Tim Gleason. He has not been worse than third in four starts this year.

Gleason will also send out Graysideofjustice, who comes into the race off a win for an $18,000 claiming tag just eight days ago and is 4 for 10 lifetime at Prairie Meadows.

Roarofvictory has already won two races at the meet, one sprinting and the last one around two turns. He will be stepping up in class but could be sitting on a big effort.
