Grade 2 winner Wilburn has been sold to Rockin’ Z Ranch in Beggs, Okla., where he will stand the 2017 breeding season for a fee to be announced later.

The 8-year-old son of Bernardini previously stood at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., where he debuted for the 2012 breeding season and stood in 2016 for $3,500.

Wilburn will continue to be available to breeders who invested in the stallion through Spendthrift’s Share the Upside program under the same terms.

Wilburn is the sire of two crops of racing age, with 50 winners and combined progeny earnings in excess of $1.4 million. His top foals include Panamanian Group 3 winner Uxia P. and stakes-placed runners Berniestrike, Wilburnmoney, Will Be Magical, and Unbroken Code.

Bred in Kentucky by Woodbridge Bloodstock, Wilburn topped the 2010 Keeneland April 2-year-olds in training sale when he sold to Stonestreet Stables for $625,000.

Under trainer Steve Asmussen, Wilburn won five of nine starts for $586,515, highlighted by wins in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby and the listed Smarty Jones Stakes.

Wilburn is out of the Grade 3-winning Carson City mare Moonlight Sonata, whose six winners from seven foals to race also include Grade 2 winner Beethoven and Grade 3-placed stakes winner La Appassionata. His extended family includes Grade 1 winner Bevo, and Grade 3/Group 3 winners Sky Girl and Tasmanian Moment.
