Whitewinesipper takes Generous Portion

DEL MAR, Calif. - Six weeks apart, trainer Clifford Sise swept the 2-year-old stakes for California-bred fillies at the Del Mar meeting.

On Wednesday, Whitewinesipper ($3.80) won the $100,000 Generous Portion Stakes, remaining unbeaten after two starts. On July 20, the Sise-trained Asian Adventure won the $125,000 California Thoroughbred Association Stakes. "We thought if we played our cards right, we could win the first one and the second - and it worked," Sise said.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Whitewinesipper stalked pacesetter Britetonzmyday through fractions of 22.03 and 45.20 seconds. Racing wide, Whitewinesipper quickly took over turning for home and won by three lengths over 15-1 Lady George, finishing six furlongs in 1:10.80.

"Where she wins her races is the second quarter, not the first quarter," Sise said.

Briteonzmyday was third in the field of six, followed by Believe in Slew, Frankie Eyelashes and Nordic Weather. The last two were bothered at the start when Briteonzmyday broke out, but the stewards took no action.

Sise said that Whitewinesipper will be pointed to the $100,000 California Sires Stakes at Oak Tree on Sept. 27. The California Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 3 over 1 1-16 miles is a long-term goal.

"I think she'll rate," Sise said.
