White Carnation: Madonna Lily via DQ

Email

A game performance by Judy Soda went for naught as the stewards disqualified her from first place for bumping Madonna Lily twice in deep stretch of the $69,300 White Carnation Stakes. Madonna Lily ($16.40), who finished a half-length behind Judy Soda, was placed first.

It was the third straight victory for Madonna Lily. A 4-year-old daughter of Elusive Quality, she is owned by John and Susan Moore and trained by Jimmy Jerkens.

After Judy Soda repelled early pressure from Game Card, Madonna Lily came to her outside for the stretch drive. The two were virtually inseparable through the lane, but Judy Soda, under Norberto Arroyo, bumped Madonna Lily and Eibar Coa twice. The stewards posted the inquiry sign and Coa claimed foul. The stewards took the horse down for the second bump, said Carmine Donofrio, the New York State Racing and Wagering Board steward.

The time of the race was 1:42.91 for 1 1/16 miles.
