Whiskey Til Dawn in fine spot

AUBURN, Wash. - Whiskey Til Dawn has found a likely spot to score in Friday's featured race at Emerald Downs, a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies eligible to be claimed for $32,000 or $25,000.

Whiskey Til Dawn, a daughter of Whiskey Wisdom from the barn of Frank Lucarelli, outfinished three of her five rivals on Friday in her next-to-last start on July 7, running second to Blue Moon Special in a $50,000 optional claiming race at six furlongs. Whiskey Til Dawn finished 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner, who was timed in 1:09.40, but she outfinished Ippodamia by 1 1/4 lengths for second. Ippodamia is back to try Whiskey Til Dawn again on Friday, as are Perfect Plan and Senfully Easy, who were unplaced in the July 7 race.

Coming back on July 21 in another $50,000 optional claiming race, at 6 1/2 furlongs, Whiskey Til Dawn finished behind R C Gangster and Double Quack, but outran a fourth Friday rival, Midnight Lightning, by half a length for third.

Amazing Sue, yet another opponent for Whiskey Til Dawn on Friday, ran in the next race on the July 21 card, finishing second by a neck in a $16,000 race run in 1:17.20 for 6 1/2 furlongs. That time does not compare favorably to the clocking for Whiskey Til Dawn, who was beaten 5 1/2 lengths after 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.80.

Whiskey Til Dawn's only win is against maiden special weight foes May 5, but she has not run worse than third in five career starts and will be racing for a claiming price for the first time this year on Friday.
