Where's the Widget and jockey Eurico Da Silva win the Steady Growth Stakes by eight lengths Monday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Where’s the Widget ran them off their feet in Monday’s $125,400 Steady Growth Stakes at Woodbine, winning the 1 1/16-mile route for Ontario-sired stock convincingly.

Where’s the Widget broke sharply from the outside post 9 and set honest fractions under Eurico Da Silva. He opened up a five-length gap at the quarter pole and then extended his lead through the stretch to prevail by eight lengths.

The favored Freitag gave the popular Adena Springs sire Giant Gizmo a sweep of the top two positions when he edged out Chris’ Brew for second in the nine-horse field.

Over a slow Tapeta surface, the final time was a quick 1:45.21.

Where’s the Widget ($10) earned $75,000 in his first stakes win for owner Mary Biamonte, the wife of trainer Ralph Biamonte.

“The first time Eurico got on him this year, he just couldn’t get over the difference in him,” said Ralph Biamonte. “He was a pretty good horse last year, but he told me from Day 1 that this is going to be one of the better horses up here. Fortunately, he’s right.”
