What About Ruby's debut was simply super

What About Ruby is one five Indiana-bred 2-year-old fillies coming into the $70,000 City of Anderson on Saturday at Hoosier Park off a maiden victory.

Trained by Merrill Scherer, What About Ruby was the most impressive of the five, winning a five-furlong statebred maiden event Aug. 13 by 8 3/4 lengths. The win was termed handily in the chart of the race, meaning she was under little to no urging through the stretch. What About Ruby has been working well at Churchill Downs, with a bullet 35.80-second move Monday. Leandro Goncalves retains the mount.

Bob Gorham sends out a pair of maiden debut winners in the field of eight. My Bellamy led from start to finish Aug. 27 against statebred maiden company, at the same 5 1/2-furlong distance as the City of Anderson. Fernando De La Cruz gets the mount. Perfectly Candid won by seven lengths Aug. 13 in a five-furlong statebred allowance. Jesus Castanon will ride.

Dreamin Big is the only one of five maiden winners to come from off the pace. Trained by Mike Lauer, Dreamin Big finished second in her debut at Churchill Downs on June 6 in a maiden claiming event. In her most recent out, she won a statebred allowance by a length. She’s My Geek, Wind Energy, Heartofstone, and Dr Megam complete the field.
