Westerner draws field of four

True Metropolitan, who has been a frequent visitor from Hastings in Vancouver, will be seeking his third stakes score of the Alberta season in the $50,000 Westerner at Northlands Park this Sunday.

The Westerner, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and upward, attracted a field of four.

A 4-year-old gelding trained by Terry Jordan, True Metropolitan finished second in the one-mile Teeworth Plate in Calgary this spring and returned there to capture the 1 1/16-mile Herald Gold Plate.

In his first appearance at the Northlands meeting, True Metropolitan was a six-length winner of the Spangled Jimmy.

Most recently, True Metropolitan finished second behind Spaghetti Mouse in the 1 1/8-mile British Columbia Cup Classic at Hastings on Aug. 7.

True Metropolitan will carry high weight of 124 pounds and regains the services of Quincy Welch.

Trick of the North and Beau Brass, the second- and third-place finishers behind Vancouver invader Quiet Cash in the 1 1/16-mile City of Edmonton on July 29, and Fuhr Ore, moving up from optional claiming company, round out the short Westerner lineup.

Beau Brass, runner-up to True Metropolitan in the Spangled Jimmy, will be making his third appearance in the Westerner, having finished fourth in 2004 and second last year.
