West Coast Hawk takes Kindergarten at 14-1

West Coast Hawk remained unbeaten after three starts, and upset the heavily favored All N the Jeans, in Saturday's $362,300 Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos. The Kindergarten was the first futurity of the year at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Juan Andrade, West Coast Hawk ($30.60) finished a head in front of 13-1 Kool Cowboy, with 2-5 favorite All N the Jeans finishing third, beaten a half-length by the winner. West Coast Hawk ran 300 yards in 15.21 seconds despite drifting to the outside in the first 100 yards.

All N the Jeans's chances were hurt when she drifted to the inside after the break and bumped with eventual seventh-place finisher Hawkish Town.

West Coast Hawk, a colt by Hawkinson, has earned $157,996. Trained by Jose Antonio Flores, West Coast Hawk entered the Kindergarten as one of four unbeaten horses in the field. West Coast Hawk won a maiden race on April 3 and a division of the Kindergarten trials on May 1. The colt has not raced beyond 300 yards. Flores said a trial for the Ed Burke Million Futurity over 350 yards on June 5 is likely to be West Coast Hawk's next start.

West Coast Hawk races for Jose Gonzalez's Balgo Racing, which had three of the eight finalists in the Kindergarten. There were 10 qualifiers, but Atonement and Seperate Hawk did not start. Balgo also started Star in the East, who finished fourth, and Hawkish Town.
