Weekend's races to shed light on turf juveniles

Last week was relatively quiet leading toward the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, with the $150,000 Sunday Silence Stakes at Louisiana Downs the only grass stakes run for 2-year-old males.

City Style proved an upset winner of that 1 1/16-mile race at 19-1 odds, closing from far back to score going away in a fast-paced race. City Style, a gelded son of City Zip owned by Stonerside Farm and trained by Cheryl Asmussen, earned a 79 Beyer Speed Figure for his two-length triumph.

"That was a pleasant surprise," Stonerside racing manager John Adger said.

This weekend should shed more light on the leading prospects heading toward the Juvenile Turf. Two Win and You're In stakes are on tap: Saturday's Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot and Sunday's Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park.

The Pilgrim is expected to draw With Anticipation Stakes winner Bittel Road, as well as several promising maiden winners.
