Weatherstorm top threat in Lansing

Weatherstorm, last year's champion juvenile in Michigan, heads a full field of 10 3-year-old colts and geldings in the 41st running of the $50,000 Lansing Stakes on Monday at Great Lakes Downs. The six-furlong race is the first of the season for the Michigan-bred males, all of whom will carry 122 pounds.

Weatherstorm took year-end honors in his division after scoring a 16-length win in the Michigan Sire Stakes juvenile male division in October. Trained by Bob Gorham, he opened this season with a second in an allowance race before winning a May 24 optional claimer. Terry Houghton, the meet's leading rider, will ride Weatherstorm from post 3.

Domestic Oil, who won both of his starts last year at Great Lakes, has made four of his last five starts in Kentucky. In April, he was second in a $25,000 claimer at Keeneland, then second on May 22 in a statebred allowance race here. Luis Martinez Sr. will ride for trainer James Jackson.

The rest of the field is Zephyr Charlie, to be ridden by Lyndon Hannigan; Grrrifeck, Mike Allen; Kyle's Treasury, Mary Doser; Shoot With Pride, Joe Judice; Prince Nick, Jose J. Delgado; Marquetry Sky, Jorge Collazo Jr.; Heza Hemi, Rick Knott; and My First Choice, Jose H. Delgado.
