Weatherstorm gets top Michigan honor

Weatherstorm, riding a six-race winning streak, was named Michigan's horse of the year Tuesday at Great Lakes Downs. A 3-year-old Island Storm gelding, Weatherstorm has had his five most recent victories in stakes races. Weatherstorm is owned by Marion Gorham and trained by her brother, Dr. Robert Gorham.

Robert Gorham also trained the best 2-year-old female, Dublin Dutchess, owned by Henry Mast, who was named owner of the year.

Gerald Bennett was the leading trainer at the meet with 95 wins. Terry Houghton, with 182 wins, 71 more than his nearest competitor, repeated as the jockey of the year.
