Weanlings boost N.Y. sale

EmailLEXINGTON, Ky. - The New York Breeders' Sales Company's fall mixed sale on Saturday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., grossed $1,776,900 for 172 horses sold. Most of that total, $1,197,700, was accounted for in the one-day sale's select weanling portion of the sale, which averaged $23,485 - well above the overall sale average of $10,330.

The overall auction median was $3,500, and the buyback rate was 20 percent.

The sale-topper was Hip No. 6, an $85,000 weanling colt by Eurosilver out of Shot Gun Frances. Pinhooker Niall Brennan was the buyer, and he purchased the colt from the Saratoga Oaks consignment.

The select weanling average rose 47 percent from last year, when it was $15,939, marking the third year in a row that the select weanling average increased.
