Wayne's Princess tops Miss Houston

Wayne's Princess, who ran third against male rivals in her last start, returns to racing against fillies in the $25,000 Miss Houston Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston.

The seven-furlong race for 2-year-olds has drawn eight others, including Point Gained, a half-sister to Horse of the Year contender Point Given who makes her first start since finishing seventh as the favorite in the $100,000 Silver Spur Stakes at Lone Star Park on July 15.

Wayne's Princess, the field's top money earner, ran well against regional stakes winners Victory Road and Miss Ritz in allowance company this summer at Retama Park. She went on to finish second as the favorite in her stakes debut

Oct. 6, and then faced males in her last start in allowance company at Retama Park.

Point Gained, who won her career debut June 20, might have had an excuse for fading in the Silver Spur as she returns from the four month layoff with first Lasix.

"She didn't care for the heat," said Shawn Talbot, the Sam Houston-based assistant to leading trainer Steve Asmussen.

Sidney LeJeune, Jr., the meet's leading rider, has the mount on Point Gained for The Thoroughbred Corporation.
