War General in open company

War General, who pulled off an upset in defeating statebreds in the Iowa Cradle Stakes in his last start, looks to duplicate the feat against open company when he heads a field of six, including a Glynn Bernis-trained entry, in the six-furlong $50,000 Prairie Freshman Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

War General entered the $65,000 Iowa Cradle Stakes on Sept. 1 a maiden and exited it a stakes winner after leading throughout and drawing off to a five-length score while covering the six furlongs in 1:11.36 under jockey Cindy Noll.

Noll has a return call with War General carrying co-highweight of 120 pounds under the allowance conditions of the race.

Trainer Elliott Walden ships Second Tuesday from Kentucky in search of black type. Second Tuesday, a son of Langfuhr, rallied to finish fourth, beaten 2 1/4 lengths, against allowance company at Ellis Park in his most recent start.

Cockle Burr Man looks to rebound from a very dull effort in his last start. Trained by Dennis Good, he began his career with two straight wins here, including an upset score in the Prairie Gold Juvenile stakes on June 30. But following a two-month layoff he ran last, beaten 29 lengths as the 3-5 favorite

vs. state-breds in the Oklahoma Breeders Thoroughbred Futurity at Blue Ribbon Downs on Sept. 3.
