Walloon takes Valdale at Turfway

Walloon gave breeder-owner Donamire Farm and trainer K.K. Ball their second stakes winner this month at Turfway Park when rallying to victory in Saturday's $50,000 Valdale Stakes in Florence, Ky.

With Hector Rosario Jr. aboard, Walloon tracked the pace before drawing clear to prevail by 3 1/4 lengths over She's Due in a field of 10 3-year-old fillies. Satans Quick Chick finished third, while Tacky Cat, the 3-2 favorite, faded to fifth after forcing the pace to midstretch.

Walloon, a gray 3-year-old filly by Alphabet Soup, returned $26.60 after finishing one mile in 1:40.83 over Polytrack. The win was her second in six career starts and followed a fifth-place finish in the Jan. 17 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong race dominated by Tacky Cat.

Donamire is owned by Don and Mira Ball, who won the Feb. 7 WEBN Stakes at Turfway with Parade Clown, a gray 3-year-old colt. K.K. Ball is their daughter-in-law.

* Earlier Saturday, jockey Bill Troilo scored the 2,500th victory of his career when guiding Sabeeb ($19) to victory in the sixth race. Troilo, 47, has been riding since 1982.
