Wacky Patty wins Nursery Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Wacky Patty remained unbeaten after two starts with a two-length win in the $81,750 Nursery Stakes, the first stakes of the season for 2-year-old fillies in Southern California.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Wacky Patty ($4.20) was always near the leaders. Starting from the rail, she was a half-length behind Car Lady in the first 100 yards, took control before the field left the backstretch and overcame a challenge from Yogi's Polar Bear, who held second.

Wacky Patty finished five furlongs in 58.22 seconds. Owned and trained by Jim Chapman, she broke her maiden in her debut in a maiden race over 4 1-2 furlongs on April 30.

"I think she wants to go farther," Nakatani said. "She was doing this on just raw ability. I waspretty impressed with the way she ran."

Yogi's Polar Bear finished a head in front of 12-1 Kind Lena, who remains a maiden after four starts. Car Lady finished fourth, followed by Speak the Language, Astra's Sister, and Synchronistic.

Astra's Sister was compromised on the turn when jockey Martin Pedroza was forced to take up. Intuitional and Wind Flow were scratched.
