Voting opens for NTRA Moment of the Year

Racing fans can vote for the “Moment of the Year” at the website of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association starting today, the NTRA announced.

The Moment of the Year is the only racing award that is solely determined by a public vote. The list this year includes 10 candidates, including California Chrome’s Kentucky Derby win and Rosie Napravnik’s announcement on live television that she was retiring, right after she won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

This year’s winner will be announced Jan. 16 at the ThoroFan Awards Breakfast and will be acknowledged at the Eclipse Awards ceremony the following night.

The NTRA has held voting for the Moment of the Year since 1999. All voters who participate this year will be entered in a random drawing for a $100 gift certificate for Breeders’ Cup merchandise.

The shameful finish of the Breeders Cup Classic and the stewards that blew it have to be the moment of the year. What a shame racing has to have the biggest race and and several talented horses without a claim to the crown because of human error. If that is the way they are going to let it be run, ask me, who will bother to watch next time?

My vote is for California Chrome and his Triple Crown attempt.

I think the Cal bred winning the derby is a moment. I would like to forget about the Bayern BC Classic. Waiting for all 3 horses to meet again. Only this time Hollendorffer should demand that Shared Belief be as far away from any Baffert horse who's starting in the race.

for myself personally,......it has to be, stronach placing the FINAL straw that broke the horses back and taught me that when greed comes before patrons, its time to start filling MY OWN bank account instead of stronachs.

Without a doubt it has to be Cali Chromes triple crown run or BC Classic non DQ of Bayern

Agree with you that a horse winning a race is way more momentous tgan a pregnant jockey letting us in on her family plan.

Congrats on pulling off such an amazing feat! I hope your horse wins many more and enjoys a long career. It's obvious the horse enjoys what he does, or he wouldn't have made it possible.
