Voodoo Gold romps in John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes

Voodoo Gold ran his local record to a perfect three-for-three at Evangeline Downs Saturday night as he dominated eight rivals in the John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes. Triple S Gold, part of a three horse Cole Norman trained entry that included the winner, finished second followed by C S C Grand Slam.

Under confident handling by Sylvester Carmouche, Jr., Voodoo Gold ($2.80) contested the early pace before opening up through the turn in the five furlong affair for 2-year-olds which were consigned to the 2005 Evangeline Downs 2-year-olds in Training Sale. The winner continued to increase his advantage through the lane and crossed the wire 10 lengths in front in a time of :59.53 over a fast strip.

Voodoo Gold has also accounted for a qualifying trial win as well as the finals of the D. S. "Shine" Young Futurity last month and has now won two legs of the Evangeline Triple Crown for Juveniles. The third and final leg is the Lafayette Stakes set for September 5.
