Vodka heads Victoria Mile

Vodka, still seeking her first victory since beating males in last year's Japanese Derby, will use Sunday's $1.7 million Victoria Mile at Tokyo as a possible springboard to Hollywood Park's CashCall Mile on July 5. Back home after a good fourth-place finish behind Jay Peg in the Dubai Duty Free, the Katsuhiko Sumii-trained filly will be out to end her six-race losing streak with Yutaka Take in the saddle.

Among the 17 fillies and mares challenging her are Asian Winds and Blumenblatt, recently one-two in the Grade 2 Hanshin Himba Stakes, and Nishino Manamusume, who was just a neck second vs. males in the Grade 2 Yomiuri Milers Cup last time.

* Jay Peg, who set a Nad Al Sheba track record for 1 1/8 miles on turf in winning the Dubai Duty Free on March 29, reappears in the 1 1/4-mile, $2.1 million Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji in Singapore on Sunday. The South African-bred colt, trained by Herman Brown, has new stablemate Mourilyan and French raider Balius to beat.

In the six-furlong $726,000 Kris Flyer International Sprint, Absolute Champion, the winner of three Group 1 sprints in Hong Kong, will be tested by a pair of speedy Australians in Takeover Target and Magnus.
