Vision d'Etat gets up in Prince of Wales's

The gap came just in time for Vision d'Etat in the $738,000 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday as the Eric Libaud-trained French invader outsprinted Tartan Bearer and Never on Sunday to the line to land the spoils in the 1 1/4-mile Group 1 race.

Olivier Peslier waited patiently for room through the stretch, and it came when Twice Over drifted to the rail after having taken the lead. The 4-1 Vision d'Etat, who had been shuffled back to last at the top of the stretch, zoomed through to prevail by a half-length from the 3-2 Tartan Bearer, with the 7-2 Never on Sunday a neck farther back. The time for the 1 1/4 miles on good to firm ground was 2:06.90.

It was the third Group 1 triumph for Vision d'Etat, a 4-year-old son of Chichicastenango who had already accounted for last year's French Derby and this season's Prix Ganay.
