Vinery to expand New York operations by taking over Sugar Maple Farm

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Tom Simon’s Vinery, which recently opened a division at Empire Stud in Hudson, N.Y., has expanded its New York presence by taking over operations at Susan and Howard Kaskel’s Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag.

“When we took on Empire Stud, we had no idea that the opportunity to expand further with a quality facility like Sugar Maple would come along,” said Vinery president Tom Ludt.

Sugar Maple is one of the Empire State’s most prominent nurseries and has raised such horses as American champions Sky Beauty and Itsallgreektome.

Vinery operates breeding farms in Kentucky, Florida, New York, and Australia. Its stallion roster includes 2010 leading freshman sire Congrats and 2010 leading juvenile sire More Than Ready, the latter also an important shuttle sire in Australia.

In New York, Vinery currently stands Frost Giant, Justenuffhumor, Maybry’s Boy, Posse, Purge, Repent, and Silver Wagon.
Sugar Maple’s current stallion roster includes Friendly Island, One Nice Cat, Raffie’s Majesty, and Stanislavsky.
