Victorina set to fire off layoff

AUBURN, Wash. - Victorina will carry high weight of 122 pounds Sunday at Emerald Downs when she takes on what figures to be a full field in the $50,000 Washington State Legislators Handicap for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Victorina, a 5-year-old daughter of Delaware Township from the barn of trainer Greg Gilchrist, has won 9 of 17 starts, including six stakes, for $475,033. She has not raced since Oct. 13, 2007, when she ran second to millionaire Somethinaboutlaura in the six-furlong Luck Be a Lady Handicap at Bay Meadows, but Gilchrist said she has been ready to run for at least two weeks. Victorina will be ridden by Kevin Radke.

Second on the weight list at 119 pounds is Private Dreams, who comes off an impressive 5 3/4-length win under Leslie Mawing in the six-furlong Hastings Park Handicap here on May 18. It was the fourth win from seven career starts for Private Dreams, a 4-year-old daughter of Johannesburg trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

Local star Shampoo, a winner of four stakes here last year as a 3-year-old, is next in the weights at 118 pounds, followed by Hastings Park Handicap runner-up Beaulena at 117 pounds and Kissntheboysgoodby at 116.

Fifteen fillies and mares were nominated for the Washington State Legislators, and as of Thursday only one had been ruled out - Wings of Justice, who was entered in Thursday's feature.
