Vet suspended 150 days

Prairie Meadows stewards have suspended veterinarian Robert McFarlin for 150 days and fined him $1,000 for administering the unapproved medication bufexamac, which resulted in four positive tests at the track.

McFarlin's suspension runs through March 30, 2006. Rulings have not yet been issued to the three trainers whose horses tested positive for bufexamac. Evidence provided during McFarlin's hearing showed bufexamac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic properties and has not been approved by the Federal Drug Administration or classified by the Association of Racing Commissioners International.

McFarlin said Friday he planned to appeal the ruling.
