Vestrey Lady ($13.60) went directly to the front and kept on going to win her first stakes in the $155,900 Duchess, a 7 1/2-furlong event for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

With Jim McAleney aboard, Vestrey Lady set moderate fractions while being stalked by Speedy Sandy, the 8-5 favorite in the six-horse field. Vestrey Lady held her position on the far turn, then drew away in the final furlong to prevail by three lengths.

Sudsy Baby edged another closer, Seductively, by a head for second. Speedy Sandy faded to finish a close fourth in the six-horse field. The final time was 1:31.74.

"You have to stay out of her way," McAleney said. "She's a forward, front-running type, and if you think too much, it's going to cause trouble. She's quick and talented."

Vestrey Lady picked up $90,000 for Harlequin Ranches and trainer Reade Baker.
