'Vespers' tops Wolverine

Meadow Vespers, who won the last two editions of the Michigan Sire Stakes at the now-defunct Great Lakes Downs, heads the $50,000 Wolverine Stakes at Pinnacle Race Course on Sunday's card, which has a first post of 4 p.m. The Wolverine, for older horses, is contested over six furlongs.

Meadow Vespers, owned by Mack Enterprise Inc. and trained by Richard Rettele, has a win and a second in allowance company this year at Thistledown. Ivan Gonzalez retains the mount for the Wolverine.

The leading rider and trainer at Pinnacle, Terry Houghton and Robert Gorham, team up with Weatherstorm, a past champion at Great Lakes Downs.
