Versionofthetruth goes for hot barn

Email

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Bob Tiller, one of Woodbine's hotter trainers, will be looking to continue his winning ways Friday when he sends out Versionofthetruth in the feature, a seven-furlong allowance for Ontario-sired fillies and mares.

Versionofthetruth prevailed as a 6-1 overlay when she made her debut against $50,000 maidens at six furlongs June 2. Two weeks later, Tiller ran her in a seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance, where she finished second after a three-wide trip.

Versionofthetruth breezed five furlongs in 1:01.60 over the main track on July 6. She should have an ideal stalking trip here under David Clark, who is 8 for 25 at the meeting when he has ridden for Tiller.

Tiller, third in the trainer standings, has 4 wins, 5 seconds, and 2 thirds in 18 starts since July 1.

Also entered in Friday's headliners are Bold Starlet, Schooner Bay, Archer's Dreamer, Whisky Swish, and Wishbone Kid.

Bold Starlet is moving up from $40,000 nonwinners-of-two claiming company, a class hike that is not as steep as it appears. Bold Starlet graduated against $40,000 maidens last September and has been competitive in each of her five subsequent outings. She was fourth in a pair of Ontario-sired allowances in the fall and ran third behind a sharp Reputed Deeds when she came off the shelf against $40,000 opposition May 5. Bold Starlet earned her best Beyer Speed Figure, a 71, two starts ago, when she finished second after a wide trip over an inside-biased track.

Last time, Bold Starlet closed to finish second behind front-running On Silent Wings, who came back to finish fifth in a turf allowance.

Schooner Bay and Archer's Dreamer figure to link up in a front-end confrontation.

Schooner Bay came off a long absence June 17 to beat restricted maidens in her first attempt for trainer David Bell. She received a career-high 70 Beyer for the effort and came back to work quickly, but is certainly a bounce candidate in her initial try against winners.

Archer's Dreamer was fifth when she returned from a winter break against open allowance company. Most recently, she set the pace before weakening in deep stretch when third behind Versionofthetruth.

Wishbone Kid and Whisky Swish finished second and third behind Archie's Gal in a 1 1/16-mile allowance for Ontario-sired runners June 29. Both won their maidens at seven furlongs.
