Vernon: Sunday 8/25 Analysis

Best Bet: I’M THE PIED PIPER (4th)

Spot Play: VERSADO (12th)

Race 1

(5) PATTYS COURAGE showed improvement last week upon dropping to this level. Luke Plano sticks with him and the mare could get the best of this weak field. (3) REAL ART held well after a tough trip in last; he should be forwardly placed tonight. (2) MAXIMUM VIKING gets Tetrick in the bike and he’ll attract plenty of attention.

Race 2

(1) CHROME CRUISER drops in class and if he reverts to that effort two back he should cruise here. Tetrick drives. (8) BULLISH BLUE CHIP also gets class relief and I would expect his pilot to be leaving the gate from this spot. (2) BANDICOOT likely needed last week’s start.

Race 3

(7) ALLTHEWAY ABRA ships from Tioga where he was facing some tough competition. Picking up Brian Sears doesn’t hurt. (1) RUTH LIKE broke after making a big move against NY bred foes at Batavia; Schnittker trainee has room for improvement. (2) SURVEILLANCE  was a game upset winner two back.

Race 4

(8) I’M THE PIED PIPER has been facing loads better at Yonkers for Burke; tough to overlook from this spot. (4) BULLET SPEED also arrives here after facing tougher (3) VROOM HANOVER has been reasonably sharp recently and he looks competitive when comparing the locals.

Race 5

(8) MC TINY’S HOPE rallied for a minor share last week versus a touch tougher; mare has a shot here in this tough-to-figure event. (5) HERE COMES ANNIE has been staying flat and has a good midpack post. (4) WESLEYS FORTUNE should be flashing speed with Tetrick at the controls.

Race 6

(5) TIME TO KILL was a Hambo Oaks participant and managed to land a small share. Hard to believe he hasn’t hit the board yet this season after being productive in her freshman campaign. (2) PERFECT ALLIANCE qualified effectively with Callahan at the controls. (6) MISS STEELE also cruised in a morning trial; she tries again with the hobbles added.

Race 7 – Zweig Main Event

(3) HANDOVER BELLE picked up a new driver last out for the first time in her career, and the fresh hands of Tim Tetrick piloted her to an easy victory in an overnight event at Pocono. The Tony Alagna trained filly has been a minor player this season, but she certainly hasn’t disgraced herself. From this perfect midpack post I wouldn’t be surprised if she stepped it up a notch. (1B) MISTERY WOMAN tightened nicely in a PA Sire Stakes event after breaking stride in the Hambletonian Oaks. Prior efforts have been solid for this Jonas Czernyson student. She’s coupled in the wagering with Shared Past, who comes off two major speed efforts in morning trials for new trainer Ron Burke. Hard to ignore these fillies. (7) FRAU BLUCHER is the highest seasonal money-earner in the field, and she has the speed to overcome the far outside post tonight. Save for a miscue in the Hambo Oaks final, she’s been near-flawless.

Race 8

(4) PUNXSUTAWNEY drew clear easily in a Colonial consolation event. It was a career effort and the colt could be ready for even more tonight. (6) ALL LAID OUT was a Hambletonian participant and he was wiped out losing all chance. If McCarthy can get this one closer to the action he’s got a shot. (3) HAMDALLA invades for respected connections and he showed promise in the Goodtimes at Mohawk.

Race 9

(5) LEGACY N DIAMONDS has plenty of back class and he arguably gets the most significant driver change in here. (8) SRI PANKA is clearly feeling good again; looks for three straight (6) TOUCH OF THE PAST should be a closing threat.

Race 10 – Zweig Main Event

(8) ROYALTY FOR LIFE never saw the pylons in the Colonial at Pocono after his dominating effort as the winner of the Hambletonian. George Ducharme trainee seems to be over his early-season breaking problems, and with that long run into the first turn tonight driver Brian Sears should be able to secure perfect position. If he’s able to clear the front end I don’t think he’ll be caught. (4) SMILIN ELI was the Hambletonian and Colonial runner-up. This trotter has overcome plenty of adversity this season and he’s remained razor-sharp. Leaving from post three driver Tetrick will be forwardly placed and look for a perfect stalking trip. He’s tough to leave off of any ticket. (3) APERFECTYANKEE picked up a minor share in the Hambletonian final, and he was moving fastest late in the Colonial. A similar trip to his last effort and this three-year-old should again be charging hard to the wire. (5) SPIDER BLUE CHIP tired after chasing Royalty For Life two back in the Hambo final, then was a perfect-trip winner at Pocono against many of these. He’ll need another perfect trip tonight to get it done.

Race 11

(5) MANNINGLY gets class relief, picks up Pierce tonight and he could be a threat if aggressively handled. (4) DREAMANOTHERDREAM also gets a notable driver change (Tetrick) and this one also faces lesser. (8) GLOROIOUS WINNER is outside but he’s got the speed to overcome.

Race 12

(2) VERSADO hasn’t done much recently but he’s simply faster than these. (4) OUTRAGEOUS ART is another Burke shipper who fits perfectly here. (1) RECENT NEWS hasn’t been all that bad in recent efforts.

Race 13

(6) WIN GAITER returns locally and was a speedy runner-up when last seen here. (5) HOT COWBOY missed a week but he’s been sharp in recent efforts. (4) MOST HAPPY LAVROS is clearly better than that race last out; don’t know exactly what happened.
