Velazquez out, Migliore in

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Richard Migliore will replace John Velazquez in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association All-Star Jockey Championship on Friday night because Velazquez has a race commitment. The competition will be held at Lone Star Park.

Angel Cordero, who is Velazquez's agent, informed Lone Star officials that Velazquez will be unable to attend because he is booked to ride a 2-year-old maiden for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Migliore was invited to compete because, among the riders ranked by a selection committee last month, he was next in line to get into the Jockey Championship.

The field for the competition is completed by Jose Santos, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year with Funny Cide, Robby Albarado, Russell Baze, Jorge Chavez, Ryan Fogelsonger, Eddie Martin, Jr., Edgar Prado, Shane Sellers, Mike Smith, Alex Solis, and Pat Valenzuela.

The Jockey Championship is a fund-raiser for the Disabled Jockeys' Endowment.
