Vegas concerns coming to small screen

Two political issues facing Las Vegas will be featured on television this week.

On Sunday night, the FX cable network airs "Big Shot: Confessions of a Campus Bookie," the story of the 1994 Arizona State point-shaving scandal. That scandal is a major impetus for the push by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to ban legal sports betting in Nevada. But it also helps the sports books' cause, as it shows how the casino industry acted as a watchdog and helped catch the game-fixers.

On Wednesday, NBC's "The West Wing" will deal with a fictional accident in Idaho when nuclear waste is transported to an unnamed site. In real life, the federal government wants to store the nation's nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
