Vannacide targets repeat in Columbine

Vannacide will seek to defend her title in the $20,000 Columbine at Arapahoe on Sunday against Jilly Bean Queen, who has won three straight. The 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares drew a competitive field of 10.

Vannacide is moving back to two turns after closing for third in the $22,000 Molly Brown at six furlongs June 14. Last year, she won the Columbine after a start in the Molly Brown. Adrian Ramos has the mount on Vannacide, who is trained by Kenneth Gleason.

Jilly Bean Queen is seeking her fourth straight win Sunday. She enters the Columbine off a wire-to-wire win in the $25,000 Ruffian at seven furlongs at Arapahoe on June 28. Travis Wales has the mount for trainer Farrell Christoffersen.
