Valid Squeeze steps up after two romps

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The unbeaten Valid Squeeze will vault up to the second allowance level Wednesday night at Woodbine in a 1 1/16-mile Polytrack route for Ontario-sired females.

Valid Squeeze won her debut over $16,000 maidens by 10 lengths last May before going to the sidelines for nearly a year. She resurfaced three weeks ago in a $10,000 claimer for nonwinners of two, and got home on top by 9 1/4 lengths, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 74.

The quality of Wednesday's field is subpar, and it isn't unusual to see claimers make an impact in Ontario-sired company, which makes Valid Squeeze a legitimate contender.

Chantal Sutherland, who won three races last Wednesday, will get a leg up on Valid Squeeze from trainer Norm McKnight.

Other possibilities in the featured fourth race include Sunset Heights, La Gran Emma, and San Nicola Whiskey.

Sunset Heights captured her two most recent races, both with Beyers in the mid-60s. She defeated $16,000 maidens April 25, and then wired $20,000 conditioned opposition going long May 8.

La Gran Emma was beaten in double digits in both of her starts this year in sprints, but she possesses a solid record at 1 1/16 miles, and her trainer has excelled with stretch-outs.

San Nicola Whiskey crossed the wire on top in back-to-back Ontario-sired allowances in the fall, but was disqualified from the first of those two events. She has been idle since ending up second to stakes winner Tenjectory in a nine-furlong allowance Nov. 26.

* Queen's Plate nominees Wildcat Fashion and Mr. Foricos Two U head Wednesday's seventh race, a 1 1/16-mile allowance for Ontario-sired stock.

Wildcat Fashion placed in three restricted stakes last year, which included a narrow loss to Mean Green in the Bull Page. He capped his 2-year-old campaign with a front-running third-place finish in 1 1/16-mile Kingarvie.

Wildcat Fashion has worked three-quarters in 1:13.60 since finishing a weary sixth in his season opener, and should move forward under jockey Robert Landry.

Mr. Foricos Two U's lone outing at 2 was somewhat disappointing, but he just missed after a troubled trip in his first start back Aprilo12. He was a sharp maiden winner over seven furlongs May 9, when he awaited room on the turn before drawing away to register his second consecutive 78 Beyer.

Justin Stein will ride Mr. Foricos Two U for trainer Catherine Day Phillips.
