Valenzuela hospitalized

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela remained hospitalized Monday after he was unseated from his mount at the start of Sunday's eighth race at Hollywood Park.

Valenzuela, 42, underwent X-rays on Sunday evening, and suffered a slight concussion, according to his agent, Ron Ebanks. Ebanks said the X-rays showed no damage but that Valenzuela was body-sore on Monday morning.

Ebanks said it was not clear whether Valenzuela would be released on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. He said Valenzuela would not ride when racing resumes at Hollywood Park on Wednesday.

"He'll have a couple of days off," Ebanks said.

Valenzuela, who led the jockey standings at the Santa Anita meeting earlier this year, was unseated from 9-5 favorite Mango Escapade shortly after the start of a sprint.

The incident was the second time that Valenzuela has been hurt at the Hollywood Park meeting. On April 22, opening night, he injured his right knee in the starting gate, and was out of action for a week.
