Vale of York, won BC Juvenile, retired to stud

Darley Stud has retired the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner, Vale of York, to its Kildangan Stud in Ireland. He will stand for 5,000 euros, or about $6,800, in 2011.

A 3-year-old Invincible Spirit colt defeated eventual juvenile champion Lookin at Lucky in last year’s Juvenile. Racing in Europe earlier in the season, Vale of York also won England’s Peter Willett Stardom Stakes at Goodwood, finished second in the Group 1 Gran Criterium in Italy, and placed third in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot.

Vale of York is out of the Halling mare Red Vale and is her first stakes-winners.

Darley also announced Thursday that it will retire Group 3 winner Alexandros, a 5-year-old Kingmambo horse, to Haras du Logis in France. The multiple Group 1-placed runner will stand for 4,000 euros, about $5,440. He is a son of the King of Kings mare Arlette and is her first group or graded winner.
