Va. pursues account bet options

The Virginia Racing Commission has begun exploring its legal options to allow for expanded account wagering in the state, according to the commission's executive director, Stan Bowker.

The commission met Thursday to receive legal advice on how to change regulations in the state, which require account-wagering companies to reach an agreement with the state's only racetrack, Colonial Downs, before the companies can receive a license.

Several account-wagering companies have complained that Colonial has refused to reach the agreement to protect its own account-wagering business.

Bowker said that "it's the commission's intention to do what it can to end the impasse and allow for more account-wagering companies to receive licenses."

The commission is next scheduled to meet on Nov. 12.
