Utopia relocated to Turkey

Utopia, a multiple Japanese Group 1 winner, has been purchased by Turkish bloodstock agent Tarik Tekce on behalf of Serdar Kemal Ozcolak, who will stand him in Turkey.

The 14-year-old son of Forty Niner had been standing at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., since his debut at stud in 2008. He stood the 2014 breeding season for an advertised fee of $5,000.

Utopia is scheduled to ship from the U.S. in mid-September to stand at the Jockey Club of Turkey’s Karacabey National Stud in Bursa.

Bred in Japan by Northern Farm, Utopia won nine of 34 starts for earnings of $4,913,585. He spent the bulk of his career racing in his native country, where he won the Group 3 Unicorn Stakes and was Group 1-placed.

Utopia then traveled to Dubai, where he won the Group 2 Godolphin Mile and was later purchased by Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum’s Godolphin Racing. He was then sent to the U.S., where he won the Grade 3 Westchester Handicap and finished second in the Grade 3 Stuyvesant Handicap.

Utopia has sired 298 foals over five crops. His best runners include stakes winners Matchmadeinheaven, My Jopia, I’ll Stake U, Free Mugatu, and Champagne Ruby.
